Welcome to The American String Project website for 2009/10.
Since our concerts in May 2009, the Project has received two of our most important reviews: Strings Magazine’s December issue has a full page review of our 2008 recording and the August issue of the BBC Music Magazine chose our 2008 CD as "Pick of the Month" for all North American releases of classical music discs.
The BBC magazine is one of the most important periodicals dedicated to classical music in the world and is read by tens of thousands of music lovers each month. This review is available here, and if you would like to get copies of the CD, which features performances of Brahms, Shostakovich, and Dvorak, they are available through MSR Classics.
In the December 2009 issue of Strings Magazine the Project received a full page review for our 2008 disc. Strings Magazine is the premier journals in the US devoted to string playing. In their upcoming April/May issue they are doing an in depth feature article on the Project including its origins, repertoire, musicians and more.
As you can see, we have produced a documentary about the Project, created from extensive film footage of our May 2009 concert week. Being able to show how we work, rehearse, and perform to those who have never experienced the Project in person will be a very valuable tool for us. There are many sequences showing our rehearsal process as well as interviews with some of our musicians.
Our 2010 concerts will be on May 20, 22, and 23, and many of our friends are returning to perform. Our format for concerts has changed with each concert featuring two different works, each preceded by a interactive demonstration of how each work has been transformed from string quartet to string symphony. We hope you will plan to be there and, as always, we appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Barry Lieberman and Maria Larionoff
