For our supporters and musicians, thank you for making the 2009 season so enjoyable. We look forward to seeing you next year!

Our name reflects our affiliation with the United States of America. Our musicians are U.S. citizens (with a few Canadian exceptions), and our history is closely associated with events in the USA in this first decade of the twenty-first century. The Project’s first board meeting was held on September 11, 2001, a day which sent shock waves through the world. We never considered not having that meeting. And now, in the Project’s eighth year, we are entering a new age for the United States, one which promises hope and prosperity.

Our goals transcend those of political relativity and yet are bound by their impact on society and the arts. Arts organizations are subject to the outside world’s influence and yet exist with some immunity to them, as the arts are important to any society. We at the Project hope that you, our listeners and supporters, can find continuity in what we do.

The American String Project represents a special kind of music making, one that does not exist anywhere else in the world.

We take the most intimate of music, chamber music, and turn it into a larger and in many ways more interesting and accessible form, that of a string orchestra. We have been successful, both artistically and critically.

Our artists change year to year but our collective efforts remain the same. We strive for excellence in performance, and this will always be our goal. Please consider becoming part of our family by buying our recordings, contributing, and - most importantly - attending our concerts.

Sincerely,

Barry and Maria
